Alfred John West (1857 – 1937)

Sailings version of the famous Empire State Building image of men suspended on a beam. This limited edition, silver gelatin photograph is of the bowsprit of Meteor 2 stranded on a sandbank, taken in 1897 by Alfred John West. Not even the weight of 32 crew members was sufficient to rock her free!

Silver gelatin photograph, printed using the original 12” x 10” glass plate negative, 3 x 3.5mm conservation mountboards, presented behind 99% UV, non-reflective glass.

EXTERNAL FRAME DIMENSIONS: 2,510mm x 1,510mm.
